Gondar
The castle compound of Emperor Fasiledes and the church of Debre Berhan Selassie.
Gondar was the imperial capital from the 1630s. The Royal Enclosure holds the palaces of Fasiledes, Iyasu, and later kings, plus a sauna and a library. A short ride away, Debre Berhan Selassie is known for the painted angels on the ceiling.
Fasiledes' bath is filled for Timkat. The town is also the gateway to the Simien Mountains. Hotels are in the Piazza area and along the road toward the airport. Two nights cover the castles and a morning at the church.
