Bale Mountains

Ethiopian wolf habitat on the Sanetti Plateau, reached from Goba or Robe.

Bale Mountains National Park holds the largest remaining population of the Ethiopian wolf. The Sanetti Plateau road climbs above 4,000 metres from the southern side. Red wolves hunt giant mole-rats in the open grass. Lower down, the Harenna forest is a different world of bamboo and monkeys.

Dinsho has the park headquarters on the northern side. Most visitors sleep in Goba or Robe, where the hotels are, and drive up for the day. Take warm clothes even in the dry months. The plateau is cold.
