Awash National Park
Rift Valley park on the road toward Dire Dawa, with the Awash falls.
Awash National Park is the oldest in Ethiopia and sits on the highway from Addis Ababa toward Dire Dawa. The Awash River falls into a gorge, oryx and gazelle use the grass plains, and the Fantale volcano is the skyline. Hot springs are a short detour.
It works as a night between Addis and Harar, or as a long day from the capital. Lodges inside the park area exist, and Adama or Metahara are the fallback towns if those rooms are gone.
